Minor dead in Moghbazar fire, police corrects
desk report : A minor died in the fire that gutted a rickshaw garage and a portion of the adjacent slum in the capital's Moghbazar area, near Hatirjheel, on Saturday.

Police initially said three children had died in the fire. But after the situation calmed down, they corrected statement and said one child had died.

Fire broke out in Madhubagh's Mirbagh area around 8:15am, Fire Service and Civil Defense senior Station Officer Mohammad Ali told the Dhaka Tribune.

Twelve fire fighting units brought flames under control after an hour of efforts around 9:15am, he said.

From the scene, Ramna police station Officer-in-Charge Mashiur Rahman initially told the Dhaka Tribune that dead bodies of three children were recovered.

Contacted later, he said one child was dead in the fire and the death of two others were mistaken. However, an identity could not be provided yet.

The fire had spread from the rickshaw garage to the adjacent slum. Locals were fearing that about 400 houses were gutted. It was unlikely that the death toll will rise further.

The locals were helping fire fighters in rescue efforts.
