Police foil rallies at Shahbagh, arrested 7
Desk Report: Police dispersed activists of Ganajagaran Mancha and another Shahbagh-based group on Friday when both groups tried to demonstrate at the intersection in Dhaka. Seven persons, including five Mancha activists, were also detained from the site of the youth-led uprising Bangla Spring in the afternoon.
Several people including key Mancha organisers Lucky Aktar and Mahmudul Haque Munsi were injured when police charged batons. They were admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Ramna zone Assistant Commissioner Shibli Noman said neither group obtained permission to hold the rallies at Shahbagh, christened 'Prajanma Chattar' by the Manhca activists.

We evicted them since they did not have permission. They were told that no-one will be allowed to hold rallies, he told bdnews24.com, adding that several people were also detained. Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Krishna Chandra Das said five of the detainees were identified as Mancha activists and two others of Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command, a platform for the children of the 1971 freedom fighters.
On Thursday night, a clash between two groups of youths at Shahbagh over sitting on some chairs brought there by the Command had left two Mancha activists injured.
Pressing for the maximum punishment for 1971 war criminals, the secular platform called a rally for Friday to protest against the incident which they claimed was an attack on them by the supporters of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Awami Juba League.
The Command and Muktijoddha Prajanma Kendirya Sangsad announced a rally of their own at the same place around the same time. They claimed they were attacked by the Mancha activists on Thursday night. Source - bdnews24
